Ukhamba Jar Lamp 260

The shape of this Jar Lamp is inspired by the shape of earthenware jars, and reminds us of the name ‘Ukhamba’ which means ‘vessel’ in isiZulu.
All Jar Lamps are handmade from anodised aluminium fabric. Anodising is a corrosion-proofing treatment which can be done in an array of shimmering metallic colours.

Installation

Please refer to the ceiling plan for your installation arrangement. The lamps should be installed by a qualified electrician. The electrician should use the appropriate dimmer if dimmable LED lamps are used (recommended).

  1. First loosen the plastic grub screw in the ceiling plate and make sure the electrical cable is the correct length. Tighten the grub screw again.
  2. Mount the ceiling plate to the ceiling box. If there is no ceiling box built-in then simply mount to a supported ceiling.
  3. Now connect the power. Test the lamp.
  4. Slide the ceiling cup up the electrical cable flush against the ceiling. Tighten the small grub screw at the bottom of the ceiling cup to fix in place.
  5. Raise the ceiling cup up and fix into place by tightening the small grub screw at the bottom of the ceiling cup.
  6. Now you are ready to attach the shade to the electrical assembly. Make sure you only install the shade after all works have been completed on site and the dust has settled. Begin by lifting the lamp shade up past the lamp-holder hooks and then rotating 60 degrees (like a ‘key-hole’), so that it can drop back down and click into place.
  7. It should easily settle on two of the hooks first, and the third final hook will click into place with a small amount of pressure.

CAUTION

Do not press (with any force) onto the material with any sharp / hard objects. This may cause a dent or scratch that cannot be removed due to the “memory” feature of the metal mesh. Handle the lamp shade with care only with you bare hands. When removing it from the box hold it only at the outer or inner rings.

Maintenance

Cleaning
To clean the lamp shade of loose dust or fallen articles, simply blow the lamp with a hairdryer on a medium or cool heat from the underside of the lamp, blowing the dust outwards and away from the lamp. For heavier dust, use a spray bottle with 90% water mixed with 10% alcohol. Once you have sprayed the lamp with fine mist, blow dry with a hairdryer. The evaporating water loosens and carries the dust away. Always hold the lamp shade at the outer ring, or wire neck ‘cage’ and do not grip the product on its’ mesh surface. If a stain is stubborn, use a small amount of acetone and clean gently with smooth cloth or small soft brush without exerting pressure on the mesh.

Replacing the bulb
Screw the lamp out of the E27/ Edison ‘screw type’ lamp base and replace with new lamp. We recommend using a dimmable frosted LED lamp which lasts approximately five years or longer if dimmed.
